Words can be described, explained and viewed through different lenses based on variety of factors. Words according to the Grammarians can be seen as the smallest discrete unit of language which has a particular meaning and can be expressed by itself.
It is as well imperative to see words as invisible powerful weapons that are used for the purpose of defence or offence in the journey of life.

Words uttered are invisible.
It cannot be held or seen with eyes but heard; it can be seen when written.
They can be verbal or non-verbal.
A piece of art such as drawings, paintings, etc communicates non-verbal words.
They depict one's intentions.
Words are pointers of one's intentions. One can decipher intended action(s) of a person by what is uttered.
Words uttered showcases one's level of socialization or enlightenment.
Words are transaction or communication 'modems'.
They are highly expedient for communication.
